Feeling Tired?

We have all had those days when we feel like we can barely muster up enough energy to move forward, function normally, or even think clearly. I too have been there, and I remember thinking, will it ever get any better.  The natural instinct or what our society has taught us is to jump for the coffee or energy drink to get us though the day. What you do not realize, however, is that you may actually be doing more damage than good.

Things to consider if you are feeling fatigued

1.Stress

We all have dealt with it some more than others. That overwhelming feeling of uncertainty, hopelessness, and just the inability to relax! If this is your daily life, STOP IT NOW! I know it’s easy to fall into the trap, especially when things are hard, however, you are not only mentally exhausting yourself but depriving the body of it’s life force. Stress has an impact on our eating habits, can have an affect our hormone levels, accelerates the aging process, and increases the risk of illness. The greatest thing you can do to conquer stress is learning to take time for yourself. Even if it is just five minutes a day, start off by learning to breathe and refocus your thoughts. Also, remember what is important to you. Check in with how you are feeling, and focus on the blessings that you have been given. As I mentioned, we all struggle with stress, it’s just a mater of how you deal with it that determines how you feel at the end of the day

2. Food

What you eat can have a huge impact on how you feel. In order for our bodies’ to function properly, it is essential that we get the vitamins and minerals that our body craves! The best thing you can do is stay away from processed food, sugar, and simple carbohydrates like pasta and white bread. Also, avoid anything in a box, jar, bottle, artificial sweeteners, fried food and soda. It is all about to getting back to basics and eating food in its natural form. Eat a rich diet of greens, legumes, lean protein, and whole food carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes and brown rice, for instance.  Staying away from food that has been modified is key.

3. Caffeine

Though they are classified as stimulants, coffee and energy drinks can actually do more harm than good.  Not only does your body become dependent on them, but they can also lead to adrenal exhaustion, thus making the problem worse. So the next time you decide to make a quick stop by the coffee shop or go for that energy drink instead. Complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, sweet potatoes, and a multitude of other vegetables, for example, will naturally give your body sustaining energy throughout the day.

4. Exercise

After a long day or lack of good sleep the night before, physical activity is often the last thing on our minds’.  Exercise, however, will increase your energy and stamina by bringing oxygen and nutrients to the body. This not only helps your cardiovascular system function in a more efficient manner, it also stimulants chemicals in the brain that can leave you feeling relaxed as well as improve your mood. Even if you don’t have the chance to work out for long, substantial periods of time, simply dedicating at least 30 minutes a day will result in significant change.

Perseverance is Everything! Just because it doesn’t look like you are getting results now doesn’t mean you won’t get there. Remember it is about baby steps. It took me a long time to figure it out, but once I did it changed my whole world.
